First what is the Moose Fraternity?

An International organization of men and women, dedicated to caring for young and old, bringing communities closer together and celebrating life.

What does this mean?

•  We care for children in need from throughout the world at  Mooseheart  Child City and School, just west of Chicago.
•  We provide for seniors at Moosehaven, our 72 acre retirement  community in Orange Park, Florida along the St. Johns River.
•  We provide over $90 million worth of community service activities  annually.
•  We have fun doing so and develop life-long bonds.

About Your New Lodge

Under the OKMA Lodges tab you will find a page for each lodge in the Association. Those pages list

•   The Hours of Operation of the Social Quarters and Kitchen if applicable
•  The Meeting schedules
•  Contact information i.e., address, lodge phone number, lodge fax number,  email address and Email addresses for the Governor and Administrator
•  Several even have a link to the lodge newsletter
•  Note since your membership is good at any Moose Lodge this information  and the Get Directions link may be valuable if you are traveling within the  within Oklahoma and South Kansas

Your lodge will have one or more rooms outside the Social Quarters. These room are used for meetings of the Lodge to discuss Moose business, and for activities such as bingo, dinners, dances or other similar events.

These other areas of the Lodge may be utilized by members for private social functions, if you are interest in this please discuss with your Lodge Administrator because guidelines are different for each Lodge.

Social Quarters Policies

The following are general policies for all lodges details will vary from lodge to lodge.

The General Laws of the Order authorize a Lodge to operate a “Social Quarters’ for use by members and qualified guests.  Only members can make purchases and guest must be accompanied by the member. Qualified Guests include:

•  The spouse of an active Lodge or Chapter Member
•  A prospective member, note potential members are limited to two visits
•  The immediate family of an active Lodge or Chapter Member who does not  qualify as a prospective member

The House Committee (or at times a joint committee) controls and supervises all aspects of the Social Quarters. The House Committee is comprised of the elected officers of the lodge and the Junior Past Governor and will establish the following guidelines

•  The conduct of members and their guests during all social activities
•  A dress code for members and guests during all social activities
•  The admission and conduct of minors
•  Smoking regulations in the social quarters and during social functions

A high standard of conduct is required within the Social Quarters and privileges may be suspended or revoked for violation of decorum. Use of the Social Quarters is a privilege of membership and not a right.

What’s Going On At The Lodge

Lodges in the OK Moose Association use several different methods to communicate the following

•  Upcoming events, dinners, dances, fund raisers and etc.
•  Social Quarter Activities such as darts, pool, cards, karaoke and etc.
•  Volunteer opportunities
•  Community Service activities
•  Committee activities
•  OK Moose Association and Moose International events
•  Lodge Officers and other Fraternal information

Lodges utilize several methods to to communicate with members, listed here in the order of  most often used

•  Newsletters/Calendars mailed or emailed. Emailed versions are very handy  with today’s smart phones
•  Bulletin Boards
•  Flyers/Signs in the lodge and Social Quarters
•  Video monitors and scrolling signs in the Social Quarters
•  Emails and/or group texts
•  Social Media, i.e. Facebook and others

Member Benefits

As a member of the Loyal Order of Moose you are eligible to receives several benefits in the way of  discounts. Utilization of these discounts can often times save you more money than the cost of your annual dues.

Your Moose Benefits are broken down into four categories: Entertainment, Health and Wellness, Insurance Discounts and Travel Programs.  These benefit include discounts on shopping, entertainment tickets, tee times, hotels, car rentals, vacations, insurance and medical expenses. All of these discounts range from 5% - 20%.

An information pamphlet covering the details of these benefits was included in your new member packet. These pamphlets are also available at your lodge. Detailed information is also available on the Moose International website www.mooseintl.org Simply enter the Members Area and click the Member Benefits button or in your bimonthly Moose Magazine

Lodge Officers

•  Governor - Elected. The primary objective of the Governor is to promote the fraternal  operation of the Lodge. The Governor is the President of the corporation.
•  Jr. Governor - Elected. The Junior Governor is the vice president of the corporation and  stands in when the Governor is unavailable.
•  Prelate - Elected. Presides in the absence of the Governor and Junior. Governor. Visits the  sick, disabled and distressed.
•  Junior Past Governor -  Conditional. The immediate former Governor of the Lodge who serves  as a voting member on the Board based on his previous position .
•  Administrator - Elected. The secretary of the corporation and of the Board of Officers.  The administrator generally oversees the day-to-day business activity of the lodge  and may be a paid employee of the Lodge.
•  Treasurer - Elected. The Treasurer of the Lodge is the Treasurer of the corporation and  ensures that the financial processes for the Lodge are in compliance.
•  Trustees - Elected. Trustees oversee the finances of the Lodge taking inventories and reviewing bills.
•  Sergeant-At-Arms - Appointed. He shall introduce all visitors at lodge meetings and set them. He shall have charge of all the  properties and paraphernalia of the lodge.
•  Inner Guard - Appointed.  He shall have charge of the inner door of the lodge room.
•  Outer Guard - Appointed.  He shall have charge of the outer door of the lodge room.

Lodge Committees

•  Membership - Focuses efforts on four distinct areas. 1. Recruitment of New and Former  Members  2. Reception (including orientation and enrollment)  3. Recognition of Members and  Sponsors  4. Retention of Existing Members
•  Activities - Focuses efforts on two distinct areas. 1. Activities which are primarily for the  purpose of serving as social or recreational  enjoyment for members and their families. 2.  Activities with the  primary objective of raising funds for the Lodge treasury or another  specified purpose.
•  Audit- Focuses efforts on three distinct areas. 1. The three members’ task is to fully audit each  of the financial reports. 2. Should also ensure that the officers are performing their financial  duties; i.e.  such as trustees initialing bills, etc. 3. Periodically verify that appropriate tax filings  are occurring  and the Lodge is protected from loss through insurance coverage.
•  Community Service - Provides an avenue for the Lodge to show that they are an asset to their  own  local communities. Enhances the image of the Lodge and the Fraternity in the local  community.  Organizes participation in Moose International’s fraternity-wide programs such  as Youth Awareness,  Tommy Moose and Safe Surfin’.
•  Moose Charities - Coordinate and promote the fundraising efforts of Moose Charities to help  offset the operating expenses of Mooseheart and Moosehaven as well as the Endowment  Fund, Capital  Projects, Scholarship Fund, and other programs as introduced.
•  Moose Legion - Coordinate the fund raising, social and service activities of the lodge’s Moose  Legionnaires
• Communications - Coordinate internally and externally for the lodge.

The Women of the Moose

The Women of the Moose, founded in 1913, is a unit of Moose International with more than 400,000 women in approximately 1,400 chapters in 49 states and four Canadian provinces.  Funds raised by the WOTM are used to assist in maintaining and caring for the needs of our children at Mooseheart and senior members at Moosehaven.

The WOTM also take an active role in the civic affairs programs of their communities by volunteering to various organizations.

The WOTM assist the local Lodge when necessary and work together with the members of the LOOM in planning many activities.

The WOTM, known as co-workers, have the opportunity to earn honors and degrees by holding an office or chairman’s position and meeting the requirements set forth by the WOTM headquarters.

Although co-workers do not have a vote regarding Lodge operations, their contributions and volunteer efforts help keep the Lodge running smoothly and are essential to the growth of the organization.

Higher Degrees of the Loyal Order of Moose

The Moose Legion is known as the Degree of Service. The purpose of this degree is to band together the loyal and devoted Moose members who desire to make further contributions to the humanitarian objectives of our Order while providing fun and entertaining activities for members and their families.

The Fellowship Degree of Honor is an honorary degree of the Loyal Order of Moose conferred only upon Moose Legionnaires who are recommended by the Fellows of their Lodge and approved by the Pilgrim Council. The official regalia of a Fellow is a French-blue blazer featuring the Fellowship logo, coordinated necktie, white shirt and black trousers

The Pilgrim Degree of Merit is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. This Degree is conferred only in the House of God at Mooseheart and comes as a reward for extraordinary service to the Order. The official regalia of a Pilgrim is a gold blazer featuring the Pilgrim logo, coordinated necktie, white shirt and black trousers.

The Council of Higher Degrees is made up of members of both the Loyal Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose higher degree holders, with the main responsibility and goal to aid the Lodges, Chapters and Moose Legions in the retention of active dues paying members through personal contact.

Loyal Order of Moose

Moose International issues a Charter to each Lodge giving permission to operate as a unit of the Loyal Order of Moose. As such, every member is bound together in fraternal service to each other and the organization, and must abide by The General Laws of the Order.

Each Lodge of the LOOM belongs to a Moose District comprised of several Lodges, which in turn is part of a state or provincial association, and finally, a member of Moose International.

The OK Moose Association not only provides support to lodge for their fraternal programs but also runs semi-annual sports tournaments for pool, darts and bowling.

In conclusion I will quote part of Our Enrollment Ceremony

“As new members of our Order, you are charged with two essential obligations. The first is to protect those within our Order. This includes your fellow members, your families, and your fraternity itself, which includes the work of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Secondly, there is the obligation to strengthen our membership. This calls for your best efforts to encourage those qualified friends, relatives, and associates to join with us. By sponsoring them into our Order, you will not only help us grow, but you will be  sharing all the benefits and privileges of this Order with others.”
